Christ Church has been established to unite people to God and people to people.
Our position regarding performing arts has played a major role in our effectiveness
in growing a large Bible-based church representing over 25 different nationalities.
We believe that God uses all styles of performing arts to facilitate worship and devotion.
It is important that the message in the music be Christ-centered as well as biblically and
theologically sound. Though our style can range from Bach to boogie, we strive to be
facilitators of the message of reconciliation through the arts.
The Performing Arts department at Christ Church encompasses the ministries of music, dance, drama, and pageantry.
Although each area within the department offers a unique presentation of dynamic worship, a noted spirit of excellence
produces a powerfully cohesive performing arts effect. Pastor Marlinda Ireland, who serves as the Performing Arts Pastor
at Christ Church, generates this unity of spirit. Known as a highly skilled facilitator of dynamic worship, Pastor
Marlinda is also a precise expositor of Scripture, enlightening congregations, pastors, and church leaders alike.
Under the direction of Minister Angel Garrett, the 60-voice Christ Church Choir has become known for its commitment
to musical excellence and artistry. Minister Angel, a soloist, director, producer, and gifted songwriter, has worked
with such notable Christian artists as Morris Chapman, Alvin Slaughter, and LaMar Boschman. In the early '90s, Minister
Angel produced her first CD, "For My Friends", and later co-produced her latest release, "Ready To Go Higher", with Minister Rick Carlos of Christ Church. The Christ Church Choir is wonderfully perpetuating Minister Angel's outstanding and dynamic skill in vocal expertise.
Our choir is the featured performer in the highly acclaimed production, "The Savior Has Come".
The annual cantata showcases the choir performing an elegant repertoire of traditional and contemporary music, and its broad range of proficient soloists and lead singers. Since its premiere in 1995, this seasonal performing arts extravaganza has delighted thousands each year with a musical celebration of Christ's birth. In 1999, the choir was chosen to perform at the Lincoln Center as part of its Gospel Festival concerts.
The choir was asked to present a selection of music from the 1970s, including such gospel hits as "Oh Happy Day", and "Soon and Very Soon". Providing musical support to the various performing arts ministries is the Christ Church Music Department, led by Minister Rick Carlos. This gifted artist has performed with The Delaware Symphony Orchestra and alongside a myriad of acclaimed Christian artists, including Joseph Garlington, Morris Chapman, and Bishop John Giminez of Rock Church. A prolific arranger, Minister Rick has a vision to establish a Christ Church Orchestra. He also offers musical training to a growing number of churches in the region, and is a widely sought-after instructor at leading worship conferences.
